A Magistrate Court sitting in Kano has ordered the remand of an ally of former President, Muhammadu Buhari, Abdulmajid Danbilki Kwamanda over alleged breach of public peace.
Kwamanda, a staunch of the All Progressives Congress, APC in Kano was arraigned by Kano state Police Command before Chief Magistrate Abdulazeez Habib of court 32.
The prosecution counsel, Bar. Abdussalam Saleh Danmaidaki, informed the court that Kwamanda’s actions contravene Section 114 of the Kano State Penal Code Law.
However, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the one count charge leveled against him.
In response, the defense counsel, Bar. Ibrahim Abdullahi Chedi, pleaded with the court to grant the defendant bail, assuring that he would not jump bail.
Chedi also informed the court that the defendant is suffering from an ailment, appealing for the court to exercise its discretion in favour of his client.
The defense counsel further butterress the bail application for his client on the provisions of Sections 35 (5) and 36 of the constitution, as well as the relevant provisions of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law, ACJL 2019.
Meanwhile, the prosecution counsel, Bar. Danmaidaki, opposed the bail application.
After listening to the arguments by both parties, the presiding magistrate, Chief Magistrate Abdulazeez Habib ordered the remand of the party staunch, Kwamanda and adjourned the matter to 29th January, 2024 for ruling on the bail application.
