Imo receives Covid-19 vaccines

The Imo state government on Wednesday evening took the delivery of 80,720 doses of the first batch of Oxford-AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines from the National Primary Health Care Development Agency.

The vaccines were received at the Sam Mbakwe international cargo airport in owerri.

The vaccines were received on behalf of the state government by the state Commissioner for Health, Damaris Osunkwo.

Osunkwo was accompanied by the Executive secretary of the state Primary healthcare development agency and the representatives of World Healthcare Organizations and UNICEF in the state.

The health Commissioner spoke, said that state government had put measures in a placr to ensure effective administration of the vaccines across the 27 councils of the state.

She urged the people of the state to help the state in fighting the various by taking the vaccines.

She explained that the vaccinations would take place in four phases, explaining that the first phase would be administered effectively to health frontline workers, police, military and top government functionaries.

She said” COVID 19 is real. it is killing thousands of Nigerians and Imolites need to dispel rumours against the vaccines.

“The state government has put in place all needed logistics for administering the vaccines, such as health personnel, security and storage facilities.”
