OndoDecides2020: INEC begins announcement of polling unit results (Live Updates)

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has begun counting and announcement of results from various polling units in the Ondo Governorship election.

The Ondo State governorship election was held in 3,009 polling units in 203 wards of all 18 local government areas in the state.

A total of 17 parties are taking part in the election but it is expected to be a three-way race between the All Progressives Congress, Peoples Democratic Party and the Zenith Labour Party.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has begun counting and announcement of results from various polling units in the Ondo Governorship election.

The Ondo State governorship election was held in 3,009 polling units in 203 wards of all 18 local government areas in the state.

Jegede wins polling

Candidate of the PDP Eyitayo Jegede has won his polling unit in the governorship election held today in Ondo state

Jegede polled 220 votes to defeat Akeredolu of the APC who scored 60 and Agboola who polled seven votes.

Jegede voted at Unit 009, Ward 2, Akure LG located inside Sacred Heart Primary School, Cathedral area of Akure.

Also at the second unit in the primary school, Jegede polled 158 votes to defeat Akeredolu who polled 43 and ZLP candidate Ajayi Agboola who polled four votes.

Ajayi wins unit

The candidate of the ZLP, Hon Agboola Ajayi has won his polling unit 004 – R.C.M at Idumado Quarter, Kiribo in Ese- Odo council area of Ondo state.

Akeredolu wins polling unit

The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Rotimi Akeredolu, has won the election held in his unit .
Sorting of votes and counting started at around 4pm .

When the result was announced by INEC officials at the unit 6 Ward 5, Isokun, Ijebu Owo , Akeredolu scored 413 votes.

The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Eyitayo Jegede , polled 12 votes while the candidate of the Zenith Labour Party, Agboola Ajayi , who is the deputy governor scored zero .

Voters and residents of the area burst into jubilation as the results were announced at the unit .

ZLP chairman Mimiko wins polling unit

A former Governor of Ondo State , Dr Olusegun Mimiko , on Saturday won in his unit at the ongoing governorship election in the state.

At the Ward 7, Unit 20 in Ondo West Local Government Area of the state, where Mimiko, who is the National Leader of the Zenith Labour Party, voted , the ZLP scored 81, the Peoples Democratic Party scored 31 while the ruling All Progressives Congress polled 19 votes.

The PUNCH had earlier reported that the ZLP candidate in the election and deputy governor of the state, Agboola Ajayi , also defeated the PDP, APC and other political parties in his polling unit .

According to the result pasted at the unit by the officials of Independent National Electoral Commission, titled , ‘ Publication of Result of Poll’ , Agboola won the Apoi Ward II , Unit 004, Idumado Quarters , Kiribo with a wide margin having Garnered’ 395 votes.

His closest contestant , Akeredolu scored 13 votes while Jegede secured five votes.

Middle-aged man stabbed at polling unit in Akure

Two political thugs have been arrested in Akure, the Ondo state capital for stabbing a middle-aged man at a polling unit during the governorship election.

The incident occurred at Ward 4, Polling Unit 002 in the Ijomu part of the Akure South Local Government Area.

Speaking the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Investigation, Ondo State, Lanre Bankole, confirmed the incident.
Bankole said the victim has been rushed to a hospital.

He added that two suspects have been arrested in connection to the crime.
