Owner of hotel, military officer beat youth to death in Imo over missing phone

 

Tragic struck on Saturday evening after hotelier named Ibe Obasi and an unnamed military officer tortured one Ebuka Nwanneri at Umulogho community in Obowo Local Government Area of Imo State.

Our correspondent learnt that trouble started when the unnamed military officer went to Our Guest Hotel to relax and his got missing.

The source who spoke to newsmen on the condition of anonymity on Sunday morning, said the deceased, Ebuka Nwanneri was at the hotel when the military officer’s phone went missing, but later went away without any knowledge about the missing phone.

The source revealed that the military officer and the owner of the hotel, Ibe Obasi called the deceased back, asked him about the missing phone and began to torture him when he denied knowing anything about the missing phone.

The source said the late Ebuka Nwanneri was locked up in the hotel generator house after he became unconscious from beating he had received.

It was gathered that the Ebuka Nwanneri died inside the generator house on Saturday evening.

As a result of this, the Umulogho community irate youths attempted to burn down Our Guest Hotel over their colleague’s death.

Another community source named Ikechukwu, said that it was a quick response from the police that stopped the youth’s from razing down the hotel completely.

Our correspondent learnt that the hotelier has been arrested while the military officer and one other person are at large
for torturing deceased to death.

In a statement on Sunday morning, the Umulogho leadership Youth Assembly condemned in totality what ever lead to the murder of Nwaneri Ebuka.

The youth assembly assured the people of Umulogho that the perpetrators of this inhuman act must be brought to book at all means.

The statement by the group’s President, Engr Comr Chinagorom Cyriacus Mmaduabuchi urged everyone, most importantly the youth’s to stay calm and not to take laws in to their hands.

”We want to assure the people that the Leadership of Umulogho Autonomous Community at all levels are working so hard to arrest the situation more especially the ongoing massive arrest by the military.

”We finally urge the Nwaneri family more expecially Mr Udomba family to take heart while look forward to securing for our late brother.

Speaking with our correspondent on Sunday, the Imo State police command spokesperson, Henry Okoye disclosed the owner has been arrested by the police.

Okoye said the command is investigating the incident. He assured that other suspects will be also be arrested to face the law in due course.
