Streets deserted, shops shut in Anambra — despite IPOB’s suspension of sit-at-home in south-east

Despite the suspension of the sit-at-home order in the south-east by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), residents of Awka, capital of Anambra state, are still in fear.

The proscribed group had threatened to lock down the region from November 5 to protest the detention of Nnamdi Kanu, its leader.

Emma Powerful, IPOB spokesperson, in a statement on Thursday, said the sit-at-home order has been cancelled to allow people in Anambra to participate in the governorship election on Saturday.

The election is scheduled for November 6.

When TheCable visited some areas of the state on Friday, there was minimal movement of vehicles and people, while most shops were shut.

Fuel stations were also not opened for business.
