Tankers explode in Lagos

Two fuel-laden tankers have exploded at the Lagos quadrapont bridge by National Arts Theater in Lagos state.

Margaret Adeyeye, director of Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, said the service is currently trying to put out the inferno.

“The Sari Iganmu and Ilupeju fire crews are combining efforts to tame the raging fire,” she said.

In an update, the fire service said the incident involved three tankers (two with fuel contents and an empty one); a micro-mini bus, and a tricycle.

“Casualty yet unknown if any as Firefighting continues with Ajegunle Fire Station joining the fray,” the fire service said.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) also said its officers are at the scene to handle the situation.

Earlier, a tanker fell on the Otedola bridge.

The tanker reportedly lost control while conveying diesel outward Lagos Capital Oil Filling Station along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.

The tanker spilled its content on the road while a 14-seater company bus, with three occupants, was trapped beneath it.

The three persons were eventually rescued unhurt.
