WhatsApp, the messaging service used by billions of people worldwide, is now working — after an outage that lasted for minutes.
The social media service went down on Wednesday evening, with some users complaining they cannot send or receive messages.
According to the outage tracking website Downdetector.com, there were more than 17,000 incidents of users reporting issues with the messaging platform.

WhatsApp, whose parent company is Meta, however, released a statement stating that it was aware of the outage and working to fix the issues.
“We know some people are experiencing issues right now, we’re working on getting things back to 100% for everyone as quickly as possible,” it wrote on X.

A few minutes after the outage, the messaging platform started working for many users.
The development comes less than a month after Meta’s other platforms — Facebook and Instagram — experienced global technical issues.
On March 5, millions of users complained about logging errors while accessing the social media platforms.
The Mark Zuckerberg-owned platforms had suffered a similar multiple-service outage in October 2021.
Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp experienced a global outage that lasted about six hours.
The platforms also experienced glitches globally in March of that same year
In 2019, TheCable Lifestyle also reported how Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp were hit by a three-hour outage which prevented some users from accessing the platforms.
