10 Kidnapped Maritime Travellers Regain Freedom

Ten maritime travellers who were abducted along the Bonny – Port Harcourt waterway earlier this week have regained their freedom.

The victims of them were abducted on Monday, September 2. The police authorities had pledged to investigate the incident and rescue the victims.

But a source confirmed the victims’ release to Channels Television on Saturday.

He said 10 of the travellers were abandoned by their abductors when they noticed operatives of the Nigerian Navy’s, Forward Operations Base (FOB), Bonny were searching for them.

The within the FOB Bonny who doesn’t want to be quoted said that operatives of the base had been tracking the kidnappers since it was reported and their intense intelligence led to their captors fleeing and abandoning them along the Onne channel.

The victims were taken to the base for medical checkups after which they were reunited with their various families.

Though no official statement has been released by the Navy or the Police, but the agencies insist they will intensify operations against sea pirates operating in the vicinity.
