A 14-year old girl, Joy Nwabueze Onua, has reportedly died after being raped in Issele-Uku, Aniocha North council of Delta State.
The teenager was a Junior Secondary School 1 (JSS1) student of St Martin’s Secondary School, Issele-Uku.
The suspect, one Chukwuka Nwosu, a driver, is on the run, police said, adding that he lured the girl into his Hilux vehicle and then to a guest house, where he raped her.
Nwabueze Onua, sister of the deceased, said the teenager, before she passed away, told them that a man gave her a ride on her way from the market, only to drive past their house to a guest house where he raped her.
Police spokesman Edafe Bright, who confirmed the incident, said a manhunt had been launched for the suspect.
Traditional ruler of Issele-Uku Kingdom, HRM Agbogidi Obi Nduka, expressed shock that such a crime could take place within a few months after another teenage girl was gang-raped in the community.
