Popular Abuja Pastor Accused Of Owing Church Workers Salaries

Nnenna Kalu-Ude, a former Chorister at Commonwealth Of Zion Assembly (COZA), Abuja, has accused founder of the church, Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo, of owing salaries of church workers. In a social media post, Kalu-Ude said many of the persons affected were afraid to speak up. She accused the pastor and his wife of being responsible for the death of her friend, Tega, who was also a choir member, saying she was maltreated. She also accused the cleric of suppressing his critics through occultic power, claiming that people who want to speak up about the “evil” going on in the church either fall ill or die mysteriously. “Dearest Tega, your death was so unnecessary but it will not go unchecked or unpunished. I’m so broken. “@BiodunFatoyinbo@ModeleFatoyinbo@BnbLadies and all your sycophants who move at your command. “People may not speak because they are afraid of you, I don’t blame them. I was like them too. But I’m no longer afraid. I left my fear by your gate on the day of my last worker’s meeting in your cult. “I’ve never seen such cruelty; not paying workers’ salaries for months but expecting them to still show up every day. Driving them out of the house even to point of nearly putting Catherine on the streets. Clearing the entire house of every furniture and appliance so that those that were still left would leave.” When Daily Trust contacted the church for reaction, one Eyitayo Fatogun, a COZA official, who answered the call requested for a written note before any response would be given. “Write to us, we will respond,” said the voice on the other end. Fatoyinbo is not new to controversies. In 2019, Busola, wife of popular singer, Timi Dakolo, accused the cleric of raping her several times when she was a member of the church.

Garba Shehu: Power generation now 13,000 MW — it was 2,500 MW under Jonathan

Garba Shehu, presidential spokesman, says the Buhari administration has greatly improved power generation in the country. He said though the administration has been constrained by “situations on ground”, the government has been able to generate more than 13,000 megawatts of power. Shehu said this on Friday in an interview on Sunrise Daily, a Channels Television programme, adding that the government has also doubled power availability in the country. He said the government inherited a reckless privatisation of the power sector, done by the Goodluck Jonathan administration, but that it has been able to up its uptake by 5,000 megawatts. In 2013, the power sector was privatised as the electricity distribution and generation sub-sectors were sold to core investors, while the federal government held the transmission sub-sector. “The situation on ground constrained the government and the party from delivering as much more than what we have. As we speak today we have doubled power availability in the country,” he said. “In terms of generation, it has improved 200 times. We have the capacity to generate more than 13,000 of power. The uptake is up to 5,000 as we speak now. That is not the best but it’s an improvement on the 2,500 megawatts that we inherited. We aspire to do 20,000 or 30,000 megawatts of power, we haven’t done that but we have launched 19,000 availability. It’s remarkable, why don’t we look inwards and use out the 13,000 that are available. A lot of power is generated and wasted in some cases. “This government inherited a reckless privatisation process, which the president said in the interview that it was largely driven by the need to gratify political interest.”

Mbaka to Buhari: Handover To Northerner, Watch Nigeria Collapse

The Spiritual Director of the Adoration Ministry Enugu, Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka, has warned the Muhammadu Buhari-led government that Nigeria may cease to exist if the north retains power in the forthcoming 2023 general elections. Speaking during a sermon at the adoration ground in Enugu State, the popular Catholic priest warned Buhari against planning to hand over power to the north. According to Mbaka, the Northerners should forget about leadership in the coming political era, saying there may be a disaster if the north tries to impose the next President on Nigerians. He said, “The issue of after Buhari, the North should lead again, President Buhari should better plan well and hand over to the South, but if the north wants to take over, this country will collapse. “There may be no Nigeria again if the President, because of whatever, tries to hand over power back to the north. After Buhari, the Northerners should forget about leadership in this coming political era. “If they try to make a northerner next President, disaster will happen, going forward will be impossible, going back will be a dream. Anyhow they want to do the political maneuvering, they should make sure that justice prevails. “The spirit of the Lord has asked me to say this because they have what it takes to plant a northerner. Buhari should remember that Nigerians trusted him when he came in and he should remember that one day, he is leaving that place.”

Cooking gas price drops

The Federal Government on Thursday said it was putting measures in place to ensure further reduction in the cost of Liquefied Petroleum Gas, popularly called cooking gas. It disclosed this while reacting to the recent marginal drop in the cost of cooking gas. According to findings, the price of 12.5kg LPG has dropped from N8,800 to between N8400 and N8200. In some outlets, the price of the commodity dropped to between N7,800 and N8,000 as of Thursday. In November, The PUNCH exclusively reported that the cost of LPG kept rising in 2021, jumping by more than 240 per cent between January and October 2021. The development forced some LPG users to shift to charcoal or firewood, as consumers of the commodity raised the alarm over the persistent hike in its price. The product had increased by 240 per cent for 12.5kg, moving up from N3,000 to N10,200 within the first 10 months of 2021. “It is in government’s interest for the price to go down consistently and there are certain initiatives that are being taken at the moment, which hopefully will see to further drops in price regardless of the international cost,” the Programme Manager, National LPG Expansion Implementation Plan, Office of the Vice President, Dayo Adeshina, stated. When asked to state one of such initiatives, he replied, “The discussions are still ongoing and there are certain things that you can do to stimulate the market which will have an effect. One of them also has to do with storage.” About 65 per cent of the LPG is imported into Nigeria, while domestic production accounts for 35 per cent, hence the cost of the commodity in the global market affects the price locally. Adeshina told our correspondent that the international price of the LPG had risen so high in October last year, but dipped towards the end of 2021 into January 2022, as this also contributed to the recent drop in the LPG price across the country. He said, “If you look at the international pricing of the LPG, and that might change again because it is not a fixed price, in January last year, it was $250 per tonne. “It rose to $875 per tonne by the end of October and started dropping by the end of November into December, and came down to around $500 per tonne at some point but went up again in December to $708 per tonne.” He added, “Now, as of the third of January this year, that figure is $744 per tonne. So you can see there is a drop from about $800 around November to $700 in January. The issue here is that the price has been fluctuating. “Yes you have the effects of Customs and the position of the VAT that made people pay tax for what they imported even in 2019 and 2020. Of course, some importers stopped importing, but there is a resolution going on to resolve that aspect.” Adeshina assured Nigerians that the government would come up with additional measures that would see to a further reduction in cooking gas prices regardless of the price fluctuation in the global market. Commenting on the development, the National Chairman, Liquefied Petroleum Gas Retailers Association of Nigeria, Michael Umudu, confirmed the drop in LPG price, attributing it to the increase in supply by the NNPC and NLNG. “Also, many LPG users stopped using the commodity at the time when the price kept increasing and this reduced demand pressure on cooking gas, hence causing a rise in its availability and then a gradual drop in price,” he stated. Asked whether the Federal Government had removed the VAT on cooking gas imports, Umudu replied, “It (government) has not been enforcing the tax and has remained silent about it, but has not said anything about removing it. This also has helped in price reduction.” Last month, the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, Mele Kyari, said the NNPC was increasing the supply of the LPG in a bid to force down its price. Kyari said, “Two things are in play. One is the supply in the international market of gas. It moves with the price of every other petroleum product including crude oil and its derivatives. “So definitely, it is a reflection of what is happening in the international market. However, what we are doing is to increase supply and once supply increases, price will come down.” PUNCH

Amidst intense military operations in Zamfara, Turji, Notorious Bandit Relocates

Bello Turji, a notorious bandit operating in the North West, has reportedly relocated from Zamfara owing to intense military operation. Daily Trust had reported how the Air Force destroyed camps of bandits in multiple raids across the region. Police: How pregnant women held by Turji were rescued Why Zamfara bandits’ kingpin, Turji, released 52 captives Sources told Daily Trust the terror kingpin and his men who were displaced by fighter jets of the Nigerian Air Force from their enclaves in Fakai forest in Shinkafi Local Government Area are now moving southwards of Zamfara. The sources said the armed gangs have been spotted setting tents in Gando forest in Bukkuyum Local Government Area of the state. Gando is a community located near a forest and is 35km south of Bukkuyum town, the headquarters of the LGA. The community and many other villages in the district are being literally governed by the bandits. Residents reported that some of the foot soldiers had erected thatched huts in an area inside the forest. They said the criminals were moving on motorbikes with some of them walking with herds of cattle. “A bandits’ leader known as Shehu Bayade is the spearhead of deadly raids, kidnappings and cattle rustling in communities in Anka, Bukkuyum and Gummi Local Government Areas of the state,” a source said. “We believe Turji and his boys were invited by Shehu Bayade to that forest. This is because in their own thinking, making the vast forest their abode would make their detection by NAF aircraft harder unlike where they had left. “We are in serious trouble as a people. We are pleading with military and other security forces to extend their aggressive operations to this part of the state otherwise a safe haven for all sorts of dangerous people would be permanently created,” he said. The spokesman of the state police command SP Muhammad Shehu could not be reached for comments at the time of filing this report. Turji, the arrowhead of killings and kidnappings for ransom around Shinkafi, Sabon Birni and Isa local government areas in Zamfara and Sokoto states, had released over 50 captives, including pregnant women last week. The release was seen as a peace move by Turji and his men but migrating bandits later killed over 60 villagers some days after the captives were released.

Corruption: Nigerians must live within their means -Buhari

The president, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) has said that one way to fight corruption in Nigeria is for citizens to live within their means. He added that as long as Nigerians want to live flamboyantly, corruption would continue to thrive. Buhari said this in an interview with the national broadcaster, NTA on Thursday. When asked about the new leadership of the anti-graft agency, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and how the fight against corruption had been revamped, Buhari said, “The problem of corruption is a continuous one for a developing country like Nigeria. People have to accept living within their means. As long as people don’t want to live within their means, so long will corruption be with us.”(sic) Speaking further, the retired general said, “The best way is funding by departments, ministries and especially by states. Now, look at local governments in this country, the third tier of government, it is getting less and less effective and they are supposed to be the most effective because they deal with bottom-up especially when it comes to education, healthcare, which are the basic things for the majority of Nigerians. “Nigeria must conserve resources to give education and healthcare to the needy.” Buhari had in the last two days been interviewed on national TV where he spoke on issues affecting the country, from insecurity to economy, state policing and more.
