Buhari describes beheading of soldiers as barbaric, unacceptable

President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed deep condolences to the Nigerian Army, the families of Master Warrant Officer Audu Linus and his partner, Private Gloria Mathew, who were brutally murdered by terrorists. The deceased soldiers were beheaded after being shot by the terrorist group, the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) on Saturday as confirmed by the Nigerian Army. The corpses were inhumanely treated and gleefully posted on social media platforms. Buhari, who condemned the barbarism of the perpetrators of the incident and similar acts of violence against law enforcement agents, described it as alien to all cultures and civilizations. He, therefore, directed the military authorities and other security agencies to do their utmost in apprehending the perpetrators of the barbaric acts and bring them to justice. The president also called on all communities, regional and national leaders to “speak with one voice, to show that the entire country is one against this cruel and barbaric act of violence. This is unacceptable. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of this sad and tragic incident”. (NAN)

Fayemi failed in Ekiti, not qualified for president – PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party in Ekiti State has described Governor Kayode Fayemi’s presidential declaration in Abuja on Wednesday, as a “declaration of failure.” The PDP, while accusing the governor of wasting millions of naira belonging to Ekiti State on his presidential ambition, leaving entitlements of pensioners, salaries and deductions unpaid, challenged Fayemi to “tell Nigerians how well he has governed the state to qualify him as the president of Nigeria.” The party spoke in a statement titled, “Fayemi wasted millions of naira, Ekiti money to declare failure in Abuja – PDP” issued by its State Publicity Secretary, Raphael Adeyanju. It said, “It is unfortunate that 95 per cent of those who attended the declaration were transported from Ekiti to Abuja on the bill of the state government. A presidential declaration that is 95 percent attendance from Ekiti should have been held in Ado Ekiti. “From information available to us, over N300 million Ekiti State money was spent on that declaration while more than N1 billion was spent on the governor’s consultation across the country,” the PDP stated. While faulting the governor’s claim that he would tackle security in Nigeria if elected president, the PDP said, “Ekiti State residents can no longer sleep with their eyes closed, most of the roads have been taken over by bandits who are kidnapping people at will and collecting cigarettes, noodles, can beer, sachet water and so on as ransom. “If Ekiti is not secured under Fayemi as the governor, how can Nigeria be secured under him as the president? Can the country afford to replace a tyrannical emperor like Buhari with Fayemi his alter ego? What will be the fate of the Nigerian workers under president Fayemi who takes pleasure in sacking workers as a state governor?” The PDP spokesman alleged that Ekiti State workers employed by the PDP governments were sacked by Fayemi’s All Progressives Congress government, claiming that when court ruled that the sacked workers be reinstated, Fayemi refused. The PDP queried, “Is that what he is coming to replicate as president of Nigeria?”

Private Part Missing As Gunmen Kill Policeman In Imo

Unknown gunmen has shot and killed Ukam Efut, an Assistant Superintendent of Police at a security checkpoint at Agwa in the Oguta Local Government Area of Imo State. It was gathered that his killers chopped off his manhood and fled with it after shooting him dead. A source said on Wednesday that the gunmen met the policeman and his colleagues at a checkpoint and opened fire on them. He said that while Efut was shot dead on the spot the other cops were lucky to have escaped. The source said, “Unknown gunmen killed a police officer at Agwa Police Divisional Headquarters, Agwa, Oguta LGA, on Tuesday, May 3, 2022, at about 4pm. The deceased officer Ukam Efut and two others were at a certain checking point, as usual, where they mounted a roadblock and were collecting money from illegal oil dealers (bunkering). “Mr Ukam, the deceased officer, was shot dead and his penis cut off by his killers and made away with the penis. One of the other two officers sustained wounds on his face. “We call the place he was shot dead Okpo-efi junction, Agwa Ejemekwuru road. The development was really unfortunate as they made away with the man’s private part. The community is quiet now.” The chairman of the community, Ekene Onyejiekwe, told our correspondent that the remains of the slain cop had been deposited at a morgue in Owerri. The community leader said, “He was shot by unknown gunmen. I received a distress call from the DCO of the police headquarters that a group of policemen had been attacked in the community. “Before then, some of my people coming back from the farm told me about the incident first. The DCO asked me to assist in evacuating the slain cop. On arrival at the scene of the incident, I saw the DPO, DCO and the Area Commander. The Area Commander instructed that the remains of the fallen police officer be taken to the morgue. “Members of the community and security operatives took the body to the morgue in Owerri. That is all I can tell you about the incident.” The police spokesperson for the Command, Micheal Abattam, had yet to react to the development.

“Nigerian security agencies killed them”, IPOB denies being responsible for beheading of military couple in Imo

The Indigenous People of Biafra has denied being responsible for the killing of a military couple on transit to Imo State. In a statement on Wednesday, the group’s Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, described the accusation by the Nigerian Army of IPOB’s masterminding the act as “laughable” and “fallacious”. Powerful said the latest allegation is part of the Nigerian Army’s propaganda aimed at staining the IPOB’s global reputation. He said, “Our attention is drawn to the laughable and fallacious statement credited to the Nigeria Army that IPOB is responsible for the killing of a couple on transit in Imo State after their marriage ceremony. “We, therefore, wish to place on record that IPOB has no hands in the said atrocity which is an abominable act in Igbo tradition. No true Igbo will hurt an in-law, how much more a married daughter (Ada) in Igbo land. Even the ancestors will avenge such wickedness. “We cannot kill our sister who is about to marry but those who killed them were those Nigerian government and its security agencies, especially the military and DSS created to demonise IPOB and ESN. These agents of death some of whom we have made their identities public severally are behind the killings of these soldiers, not IPOB or ESN operatives.” He accused the Nigerian security agencies, particularly the Nigerian military of being behind the ongoing secret genocide in Biafra land. He claimed that the Army has always looked for an occasion to attack the innocent Igbo youths in order to rope them in the aftermath of the act and tag them as suspects. The statement added, “Before the Army jumped into their jaundiced conclusion that such abominable act was masterminded by IPOB, what investigations did they carry out to substantiate their claims? When have armed gunmen or criminals recruited by evil politicians in connivance with the same security agencies in their desperation to demonise IPOB, become IPOB members? “The Nigeria Army should leave IPOB alone because we are not unknown gunmen and those who are pursuing them. The monster they created is now after them, yet they keep pointing accusing fingers at us. “The latest allegation is part of their propaganda to stain our global reputation but the world knows they are lying. How come the Fulani bandits and terrorists beheading and massacring Indigenous Nigerians, particularly in Southern Kaduna and Plateau State go unpunished while the Army is down South flexing muscles with innocent and unarmed IPOB members and citizens of the South-East? “But any time these hoodlums they jointly created with evil and greedy politicians in Biafra land commit atrocity they will quickly rush to the press and accuse IPOB without investigations. “We understand their game plan. All they are after is to blackmail IPOB before our international friends who understand our predicaments in the region. But ironically when worse crimes are committed in the North by Fulani bandits and other Fulani terrorists in the North, the same hypocritical security agencies will keep mute and it is clear to all that most crimes and atrocities committed in the region was masterminds by retired soldier and police or serving security agents within the region of South East. “Our only crime is that we want to be self-determined. How come it is only in Nigeria that IPOB members are cannibals? When will they stop lying against us? Nigeria security agencies should please leave us alone. We hate bloodletting. We are not Killers. We have on our own been battling these same criminals those we can lay our hands on that are unleashing sorrow even on our innocent people. God will judge all those trying to paint us black for black and evil we know nothing about. “IPOB/ESN made it categorically clear to all and sundry severally that we are not unknown gunmen and can never be, but because of hatred and envy Nigeria Government and its security agencies have continued to link us with atrocities going-on in our land. “We are letting the world know that Nigeria Army and police are confused institutions. They are beclouded to see the truth because of their bias against us and delivering good jobs correctly.”

Southern Presidency inevitable, North has more to gain –Ndume

The Senator representing Borno South in the red chamber, Ali Ndume, has said that the Northern region of Nigeria has more to gain from a Southern Presidency, which he described as “inevitable”. Ndume, who is a former leader of the Northern Caucus of the All Progressives Congress, insisted that the ruling matter must zone its 2023 Presidency to the Southern region comprising the South-West, South-East and South-South geopolitical zones. The Senator spoke on Tuesday when he featured as a guest on Channels Television’s ‘Politics Today’ programme monitored by The PUNCH. The PUNCH had earlier reported that Chairman of the Southern Governors’ Forum and Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, on Tuesday, said the APC would ignite self-inflicted crises if it refused to unequivocally zone the 2023 Presidency to the South. Speaking on Tuesday, Ndume said, “I am a Nigerian, I am from the north and I believe in justice, equity and fairness. What Akeredolu said is my advice to the party. Even if they delayed it a bit, it doesn’t change the position; it is an inevitable one because the national chairman, in principle, not in writing was agreed from the north after the south has been the chairman. And as you can see, nobody contested the chairmanship of the APC from the south. “In 2015, when it was also agreed in principle that the presidency should come from the north, nobody from the South-West, South-South went into the contest. It’s not because there were no capable hands here but (it was) based on this principle. So, this time around, I don’t think that should change. “The principle of federal character is a constitutional matter. In fact, federal character is more encompassing than zoning; you zone based on federal character. “If APC zones it and it should zone it to the south, then other parties can zone it to wherever they want and it is Nigerians that would choose whoever they want. “Personally, I feel we will be better of with a President coming from the South. The current President comes from the North and if you look at it analytically, the South benefited more. So, if the President comes from the South, we (the North) will benefit more, just as we did previously under (then President Goodluck) Jonathan.” Ndume, who is from Borno State in the North, is leading the presidential campaign of a former Governor of Rivers State and Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, from the South. Aside from Amaechi, other southerners in the APC presidential race include former Lagos State governor, Bola Tinubu; Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo; Minister of State for Education, Emeka Nwajiuba; Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige; Ebonyi State Governor, Dave Umahi; Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi; former Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha; former Abia State Governor, Orji Kalu; and former Ogun State governor, Ibikunle Amosun. Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, has also emerged from the north while Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, and some other northern aspirants have been reported to consider throwing their hats in the ring ahead of the party’s presidential primary later this month.
