Domestic Violence: Activist Disagrees With Ortom, calls for prosecution

A human rights activist and author, Comrade Paul Ikechukwu Njoku, has disagreed with the outcome of the reconciliation meeting between the executive governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, Dr. Ifeanyinwa Angbo and her husband, Mr. Pius Angbo, of the Channels television.

Recall that Elombanews reported that an Imo State based Medical Practioner, Dr. Mrs. Ifeanyinwa Angbo, who is married to her Benue State- born heartrob and a staffer of Channels Television, Mr. Pius Angbo, in her viral short video exposed her brutalised bleeding face, cried out loud that her husband always beat her black and blue for telling him not to spend money on women but to save for the education of their children.

Mrs. Angbo, decried that she just delivered 4 week old baby through ceasaria procedure and was violently beaten up by her violent husband who was sitting on her stomach in brutality.

According to her, this is her fourth child and six years in the marriage and not the first time the husband does violate her as she revealed that her husband physically assaulted her when she was 8 month pregnant.

Reacting, Comrade Paul, described the reconciliation meeting between the couple and the Benue State Governor as “rubbish”, adding that “a man who physically assaults his own wife carring his baby in her stomach is a beast”.

In his words, Mr. Njoku, stated:

“This is rubbish. It is a clear case of domestic and gender-base violence.

“This is a State and Constitutional Offense beyond sympathy and irrational emotions. Punishment must be meted out to forestall incessant occurence.

“Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State must not encourage domestic violence against women by what he calls “reconciliation”.

“So many women are emotionally and physically abused and assaulted by men in Nigeria.

“This is utterly unacceptable. I am disappointed in Benue State Governor.

“A woman beater is synonymous to a drug addict hence must be treated as one.

“Mr. Angbo, should be arrested and prosecuted according to the law otherwise any woman who kills a man in the case of domestic violence via self defense should be pardoned too.

“Domestic violence is a violation of fundamental human rights which the Nigerian Constitution is against.

“Protection Against Domestic Violence Law (PADVL) was also passed in 2007 including Benue State amongst other States in Nigeria.

“Violence Against Person’s Prohibition Act (VAPP) is a law also passed in 2015 which covers issues on sexual abuse and rape, domestic violence and other related crimes”.
