Sit-at-home: normalcy returns to Owerri

Normalcy has gradually returned to Owerri, capital city and environs as trading activities resumed after weeks of compliance with the sit-at-home order by the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra(IPOB).

However, reports outside Owerri showed that some local government areas such as Ahaize, Ezihittee, Aboh Mbaise and Orlu are still locked down for fear of attack.

It was learnt that Orlu axis was still locked down because of alleged killing of two persons on Sunday in a gun duel between gunmen and security agents around Mgbabano/Stratford Hotel area in Orlu.

The incident was said to have resulted to commuters from Orlu axis heading to Nkwerre and those from Nkwerre heading to Orlu area beinh thoroughly searched.

Our correspondent, who monitored the situation, reports normalcy was in Owerri as traders, commuters and commercial bus operators carried on with various activities.

Banks and other public institutions in the city operated without fear unlike last week when many did not open their services to customers.

A computer business operator, Ukachi Amadi, said: ” Today(Monday) is peaceful as business activities have picked unlike upper weeks when people were afraid to come out.”
