Again, explosion rocks Niger community

Another explosion suspected to be an Improvised Explosive Devices has rocked Galadima Kogo, Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State.

This is coming after the first-ever bomb blast occurred at Galadima Kogo on Monday.

Sani Yusuf Kokki, Co-convener of Concerned Shiroro Youths Of Niger State, who confirmed the incident in a press statement made available to our correspondent, said the explosion happened on Friday evening.

Kokki stated that the casualty level was yet to be ascertained as the explosion just occurred.

“Casualty figure could not be ascertained at the moment as the affected areas are not yet accessible due to fear of further possible explosions. Though preliminary reports are not however suggestive of any loss.

Speaking on phone, the Commissioner of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Internal Security, Emmanuel Umar confirmed there was an explosion but stated that it couldn’t be ascertained if it was a bomb.

“We are not sure what the explosion is. It could be anything, a tyre burst or a gas explosion.

“We will not be able to tell exactly what it is at the moment because I heard a car passed and then an explosion happened.”

Umar stated that there are different versions of the story, adding that he needs to get firsthand information before making a public statement.

“We are hearing different versions of the story so we can’t hold on to any for now until our experts have visited the scene and carried out preliminary investigations”.

Umar further said that he has directed the bomb experts to go to the scene and determine what the situation is and the number of casualties.

This is coming four days after the first-ever bomb blast occurred at the same Galadima Kogo, to be precise; on Monday this week.
