Nigeria’s First Female Vice-chancellor, Grace Alele-Williams Is Dead

Nigeria’s first female university vice-chancellor and first female doctorate degree holder, Grace Alele-Williams, has died at age 89.

Professor Alele-Williams, a professor of mathematics was said to have died on Friday.

As at 1963, she was the first Nigerian woman to obtain a doctorate degree in Mathematics education.

Although there’s been no official statement about her death from her family or the University of Benin where she served as VC, sources from one of her alumnus shared, Queen’s college, broke the news.

Before her appointment as vice-chancellor in 1985, she made history as the first Nigerian woman to obtain a doctorate degree in Mathematics education.
