REPORT: Nigeria Is 95th Happiest Country in the World, 2nd in West Africa

The recently published 2023 World Happiness Report has shown that Nigeria is the second happiest country in West Africa.

The World Happiness Report is an annual publication of the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network which uses subjective life evaluations to measure well-being.

Released on March 20, the report ranks 137 countries based on income, health, social support, freedom to make life choices, generosity and the absence of corruption.

Fourteen of the countries analysed in the report are in West Africa, and out of the top five West African countries, Nigeria takes the second spot with a score of 4.981, behind Guinea’s 5.072. Cameroon, Senegal, and Mauritania occupy the third, fourth and fifth positions with 4.973, 4.855 and 4.724 respectively.

After the top five countries are Burkina Faso (4.638), Ghana (4.605), Niger (4.501), Benin (4.372), Gambia (4.279), Mali (4.198), Togo (4.137), Liberia (4.042), and Sierra Leone (3.138), the least happiest West African country.

Although Nigeria is second among the West African countries, it occupies the 95th position among the total 137 countries in the report.
