Abdullahi Nyako, private secretary of Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is dead.
In a statement, Paul Ibe, media adviser to Atiku, said Nyako, who was a lawyer, died in the early hours of Thursday.
Ibe did not disclose the cause of death, but described Nyako as “a long-time associate and mentee of the former vice-president”.
The media adviser quoted Atiku as saying Nyako served him with loyalty.
“Abdullahi was more than an aide, he was a family to me in every sense of the word. He served me with loyalty and diligence. He will be sorely missed,” the PDP standard bearer said.
“On behalf of my family, I wish to convey my deepest condolences to the Nyako family and pray that the Almighty Allah will comfort and strengthen them. May Allah forgive his sins and grant him Aljannah Firdaus. Ameen.”
Nyako’s death comes three years after the former vice-president lost Umar Pariya, one of his closest aides.
Pariya died in 2019 after a brief illness.
