Attacks On Police: IGP Orders Heavy Security Presence In S/East

The Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba, on Thursday ordered deployment heavy security operational assets in the South East following incessant attacks on police officers.

Baba, who also rejigged the ‘Operation Restore Peace’, vowed that police officers would be ruthless on the criminals attacking police formations in the zone.

He also said the Police High Command would seek justice for officers who paid supreme price in the line of duty.

“I’ve ordered the immediate deployment of additional operational assets to complement officers and men attached to Operation Restore Peace in the South East, and other launched operations, with the aim of flushing out criminal elements who hide under the guise of aggrieved citizens to perpetrate criminal acts,” he said.

He said attacks on police officers in the line of duty would no longer be tolerated under whatever guise, saying the Force held the lives of its personnel sacrosanct.

According to him, it is vital to respect the lives and fundamental rights of police officers and other security operatives to enable them advance their sacred mandate of protecting the citizens better.
