Boat Accident: 13 Bodies Recovered As SEMA Takes Over Operation

Niger State Governor, Abubakar Sani Bello, has directed the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to immediately commence a search and rescue operation of the remaining victims that drowned in Zumba-Guni River while fleeing from bandits’ attacks.

The governor also directed the agency to provide succor for the remaining fleeing villagers.

A resident of the area, Michael Madaki, told our correspondent that bodies of four children and nine women had been rescued while the search for the remaining bodies continues.

The governor in a statement through his Chief Press Secretary, Mary Noel-Berje, described the incident as disturbing and painful.

He condoled with the family members of the deceased and the entire people of Munya Local Government Area.

He also decried the continuous unprovoked attacks on innocent citizens in some communities in the state.

The governor said no matter how hard the criminals sustained their atrocious activities, the government would remain steadfast and would not be stop efforts to end criminality in the state.

While appreciating the efforts and sacrifices of the joint security operatives, Governor Sani Bello enjoined them to be more proactive in their operations.
