Bread producers threatens shutdown if demands not met

Bakers Association of Nigeria has threatened to shutdown production of bread if their demands are not met within in two weeks.

In a statement in Owerri the Imo State capital at the weekend , the State Chairman of the association, Chief Osmond Nkoma on behalf of the National body said this has become necessary following several appeals to the Federal Government to help in bringing down the cost of bread production.

The bakers further listed their demands to include : liberalisation of flour and sugar importantion,reduction of import duties on major baking materials.

“Provision of concessionary forecast exchange of flour millers, reduction of Tariff on Imported wheat and ugar and seek of tax holidays “.

Already, Nkoma regretted that these have been the reason for the increament of the commodity in recent times in the country.
