There is currently tension in Aba, a commercial town in Abia State, over sounds of gunshots at the police area command, Daily Trust is reporting.
Residents were going about their normal activities when sounds of gunshots blazed across the town.
All roads around the police command have been barricaded and residents have been ordered back to their houses.
A top police source in Aba told Daily Trust that security operatives got intelligence that the gunmen that unleashed terror on security formations in Imo State are currently on their way to Aba Area Command.
Imo has been under attack since the beginning of this week.
Over 1,800 inmates were freed when gunmen overran the prison headquarters in the state.
Vehicles were also set ablaze and detainees were released when gunmen invaded the police headquarters in Imo.
The police blamed the incidents on the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) but the group has denied being behind the incidents.
After, Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo decorated him at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Wednesday, Usman Alkali Baba, Acting Inspector-General of Police, said the force will change its strategies in order to meet up with the security challenges.
Security operatives have been under attack across the country but the development has taken a worse turn in the South-East.
