Tochi Okereke, member representing Ngor-Okpala State Constituency’s seat at Imo State House Of Assembly, IMHA, has been Declared Vacant for Absenteeism by the speaker, Kennedy Ibe on Thursday.
It was gathered that in 2019, He Attended Sitting For Only 29 Times.
In 2020, He Attended Sitting For Only 14 Times.
Also in 2021, He Has Failed To Sit At Plenary Or Even Show Up,
When challenged on his constitutional powers to declare lawmaker’s seat vacant, Imo speaker said, “As kennedy, I don’t have such power, honestly but as the speaker, I have powers under Sec.109(2) of the constitution of Nigeria.
“As Kennedy, I am not happy this happened but as Mr Speaker I did my constitutionally mandated job.
Speaking further, Imo Assembly Speaker said, “A motion came on the floor floor on the house that the member has continued to stay away from house sittings and activities since early 2020. Thereby contvening Sec.109(1) which we all know is scared.
“As as a person I feel bad for the lack of representation in Ngor-Okpala had in past years. My hands were tied by the law, “the Speaker said.
