The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) have agreed to suspend the planned nationwide strike for 30 days.
The second emergency meeting in the last 24 hours is a last minute bid by the Presidency to end the planned strike on Tuesday by the organised labour.
They had declared an indefinite strike with effect from Tuesday in protest of alleged failure of the federal government to provide palliatives for workers following fuel subsidy removal.
Following yesterday’s meeting, the Federal Government expressed hope of the organised labour suspending its planned indefinite strike.
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) had also said they will meet with their team to consider the government’s offers, including a N35,000 pay increase for all treasury-paid federal workers.
Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun among other top government officials are attending the ongoing meeting.
NLC President, Joe Ajaero and his TUC counterpart, Festus Osifo are leading the organised labour team including TUC Deputy President, Dr Tommy Etim Okon; NLC General Secretary, Emma Ugboaja; and TUC General Secretary, Nuhu Toro, among others.
