…Sanctions editor
The Editorial board of crimefacts.news notes with regret, the false and misleading news report uploaded on its website on 8 – 12 – 2021 by one of its editorial personnel.
The unfortunate report cast the Police in bad light through a poorly researched report riddled with unverified assertions.
The said report, “ONE KILLED AS POLICE TORTURE, HARASS THREE YOUNG BOYS IN OWERRI IN VIRAL VIDEO”, by far, does not reflect the ethical and editorial standard Crimefacts.news is known for, as such, the defaulting staff writer, Ibe Pascal Arogorn, has been penciled for query and necessary disciplinary sanctions.
He jettisoned his editorial caution and allowed an unverified source and the social media buzz to get the better of him. We have always maintained that not every trending content on social media, is publishable.
Confirming what actually happened in the viral video, Imo police spokesperson, CSP Michael Abattam said the boys arrested in the video were suspected kidnappers at Rapour junction Amakohia, Owerri.
According to Abattam, “On Saturday evening, three suspected kidnappers were tracked down after a woman (name withheld) who had been kidnapped identified them and reported to the police.
Speaking further, Abattam said, “Two of the suspected kidnappers were arrested while one escaped.”
He said that the two suspected kidnappers are currently being detained at the police command headquarters in Owerri.
Crimefacts.news has acknowledged the editorial blunder and has since pulled down the report from its website and deleted same from its server. And has commenced the process of redressing the wrong.
We do hereby, unreservedly apologise for the inconveniences the bad press may have caused the Police authorities in the state and reassure that such editorial mishap will not happen again.
Thanks for your understanding.
