At least eight persons have been confirmed killed and five others abducted as terrorists launched fresh attack in the Danmusa Local Government Area of Katsina State.

A resident of the area (name withheld) told Channels Television on telephone that the attack took place on Sunday night in what he described as reprisal attack after the newly deployed Katsina State Community Security Watch Corps recently commissioned by the state government launched similar attack on the terrorists over the weekend.

He said during the Sunday attack which started 10pm and lasted for an hour, 12 persons were equally wounded.

“The terrorists launched the attack from the outskirt of the Danmusa town, shooting sporadically to scare the residents.

“If not because of the efforts put up by the security operatives and the vigilante in the town, the casualties could have been much bigger.

“The bodies of all those killed have been laid to rest this morning in Danmusa town after the joint funeral prayer,” he added.

The Spokesman for the Katsina State Police Command, Abubakar Aliyu, also confirmed the incident. He, however, said five persons were killed during the attack.

“Yes, the incident occurred yesterday (Sunday) around 10pm. Five persons were killed and five kidnapped.

“We have already commenced an investigation and our officers and men are already on top of the situation,” he noted.
