Businessman Elon Musk on Saturday announced provision of satellite communications over Ukraine, a move that’ll keep the beleaguered country connected to the rest of the world as the war rages.
The gesture by Musk followed an appeal by Ukraine Deputy Prime Minister, Mykhailo Fedorov requesting for Starlink Stations
Russian President Vladimir Putin has been targeting Ukraine’s telecommunications infrastructure since he launched an invasion of the neighbours earlier this week.
“@elonmusk, while you try to colonize Mars — Russia try to occupy Ukraine! While your rockets successfully land from space — Russian rockets attack Ukrainian civil people! We ask you to provide Ukraine with Starlink stations and to address sane Russians to stand,” the deputy PM tweeted.
Ten hours after the tweet, Elon Musk replied with the tweet: “Starlink service is now active in Ukraine. More terminals en route.”
The Russian leader, who has seen worldwide condemnation and sanctions throughout the week, has been keen on restricting ability of Ukrainians to communicate atrocities of invading soldiers in real time.
