After months and weeks of speculations, the immediate past Governor of Zamfara State, Abdul’azeez Yari, has defected to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP ditching his former party, the All Progressives Congress, APC.
The former Governor was also joined to the Umbrella party by Senator Kabiru Marafa.
Their defection was announced by the State chairman of the party, Bala Mande
The duo’s defection to the PDP might signal an end to the APC reign in the state as both men are considered the grassroot politicians in the state.
Journalist101 recalls that Yari led the victory of the APC in all the elective positions in the 2019 general election in the state. This victory was however nullified by the Supreme Court which nullified the primaries of the APC in the state.
The ruling of the supreme Court led to the emergence of the current governor, Bello Matawalle under the platform of the PDP.
Mr. Matawalle however, defected to the APC in 2021 which led to the fight for the soul of the party in the state. This fight has probably led to the defection of the founding members of the party in the state.
