A group, Orlu Restoration Movement has alleged plot by Imo State government to use Ebubeagu security outfit to disrupt House of Assembly elections scheduled tomorrow Saturday.
Speaking to journalists in Owerri on Thursday, the group’s Secretary, Chika Gabriel alleged that the sole administrator of Orlu Local Government Area, Chris Mbaeri is the chief operating officer of the Ebubeagu Security Network in Orlu LGA as he directs all thier operations and they take orders from him. He tells the organization what it does and what it does not.

Plot of Imo State Government to use Ebubeagu Security Network to disrupt Saturday’s House of Assembly election in Orlu LGA
Our attention has been drawn to the orchestrated plots of Imo State Government to use the widely criticized and generally condemned Ebubeagu Security Network to disrupt as well as harass, even intimidate voters from carrying out thier constitutional rights of casting thier votes in the rescheduled State House of Assembly election in the Orlu Local Government Area.
This is very sad and disheartening that at a time the government ought to have allowed a free, fair, transparent and credible elections in the Orlu area in order to reassure the masses of the enclave of its honest and sincere efforts in restoring peace, orderliness and security in the LGA, the state actors are hell bent on causing more severe pain and creating more insecurity challenges in the Orlu area by using an outlawed organization like the Ebubeagu Security Network to disrupt the rescheduled house of assembly election.
For record purposes, the Federal Government of Nigeria through the Inspector General of Police has outlawed the Ebubeagu Security Network, hence, it is now an illegal organization.
It is an undemocratic act that the person oiling and piloting the nefarious activities of the Ebubeagu outfit, is the sole administrator of Orlu Local Government Area, Chris Mbaeri. As a matter of fact, the sole administrator is the chief operating officer of the Ebubeagu Security Network in Orlu LGA as he directs all thier operations and they take orders from him. He tells the organization what it does and what it does not.
It was so pathetic upon confirming that the sole administrator urged Ebubeagu to arrest an INEC worker in Orlu during the last presidential and national assembly elections. For the public outcry in the wake of the illegal arrest, nobody knew what would have become of the INEC worker.
We therefore call on the masses not to be intimidated or cowed by the illegal activities of the Ebubeagu Security Network on March 18, 2023. The voters should be courageous, without any fear or intimidation, go and cast their votes for the candidates of thier choice., and equally ensure that they protect their votes.
Orlu LGA is already a flashpoint going into the elections and it will be a crime against humanity and humanities to worsen the already ugly situation by using Ebubeagu Security Network to stop people from casting thier votes.
