Gunmen have reportedly killed a point of sale (POS) operator in Mgbala Agwa in Oguta LGA of Imo state.
The POS operator, identified as Stanley Ojinaka, was said to have been killed on Monday morning while attending to customers at his shop.
A source in the village told our correspondent that it may not be unconnected with an encounter he had with some notorious youths of the area.
The source said Ojinaka is a native of Umuesigbala in Agwa community and had been operating the shop for many years.
“Those who killed him intentionally did so because it was said that they didn’t demand for any money if they were actually armed robbers,” the source said.
“I heard that some group of boys came to his shop and shot him dead. What he did to them is what I don’t know but I recently heard that he was severally harassed and intimidated by bad boys in the area.”
Jumho Obinna, coordinator of Oguta South Development Centre, described the incident as horrible and regretted the systematic return of insecurity to the locality.
He promised that government and the police will wade into the matter to unravel Ojinaka’s killers.
Obinna also called on the residents to remain calm and desist from taking laws into their hands.
When contacted to comment on the incident, Henry Okoye, spokesperson of the Imo police command, said he is yet to receive information on the incident.
