A father of five, Mr Emenike Okoye, from Umueri village in Ogbunike, Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State, has narrated how his elder brother, George Okoye, his wife Uzoma and children, Somtiochukwu, Ifechukwu and Ifunanya beat his wife, Nkiru Okoye to death on July 19, 2022.

He said his elder brother, George Okoye, and his family members with the members of cult groups of his son, Somtiochukwu left him in his pool of blood, thinking he has died but after some time, he staggered to the security people who took him to the police before he was rushed to the hospital.
Emenike who spoke from his hospital bed told Human Rights Defender on that fateful day, that his brother, his wife and their children who are now at large came to warn him not to follow the narrow path in their family compound.
When he asked them why they replied that the place and indeed the entire family compound belong to them.
He said they left but later returned with some boys believed to be cult boys which his second son allegedly belong and started beating him and his late wife.
Emenike said at a time his elder brother’s wife directed his second son, Somtiochukwu to use an axe he was wielding to finish his wife.
“Immediately, he hit her with the axe on the head and she slumped and died. They then faced me cutting every part of my body including the upper part of my right eye and head with the axe. I slumped and became unconscious”.
Emenike said he was unconscious when he was taken to the hospital, saying that it was when the doctors revived him that he knew where he was.
Even after several days at the hospital, Emilike was still writhing in pain, complaining that his waist and head were still aching him, hence the need for a comprehensive medical examination.
He lamented the brutal murder of his wife, which has left him with five children to take care of, saying that up till now the Police are yet to arrest his brother’s wife, Uzoma Okoye, his son, Somtiochukwu, his two daughters and others who killed his wife and inflicted his injury with an axe and other dangerous weapons of death.
He also said he had exhausted his money on hospital bills, yet he has not recovered plus the feeding of his children which is now borne by his elder sister, Mrs Monica Onwuegbusi.
Speaking with a lot of pain and tears flowing through his cheeks, Emenike said he is yet to believe that his wife has been killed by his brother, his wife and children.
He called the Police to immediately affect the arrest of all those involved in the dastardly act so that justice will be done to his family and the soul of his murdered wife.
The body of late Nkiru Okoye has been deposited at the Iyienu hospital mortuary.
