Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State has rebuffed claims that he resigned as the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP Governors’ Forum at the party’s National Executive Council, NEC meeting held on Thursday.
Some reports had indicated that Tambuwal also resigned his position as the Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, shortly after Walid Jibrin announced that he will step down as the Chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees.
While Jibrin was replaced with former Senate President, Adolphus Wabara, the reports also indicated that Seyi Makinde, the Governor of Oyo State has been appointed as the new chairman of the Governors’ Forum.
The resignations were said to be part of the moves to reduce the number of northerners occupying top positions in the party’s hierarchy in addition to the presidential ticket being held by Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.
But Tambuwal in a statement signed by the Director General of PDP Governors’ Forum CID Maduabum, denied that he has resigned his position.
“This is to inform the general public and stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party, that the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party Governors Forum (PDP-GF), Rt Hon. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal has not resigned as Chairman of the Forum contrary to some media reports.
“Members of the PDP GOVERNORS FORUM are working behind the scenes to resolve all contending issues concerning the Party. To this end a meeting of the Forum will soon be convened,” the statement read.
