Post Date : February 26, 2022

Voters in Unit 2 of Umueche ward have resisted attempts by some hoodlums to snatch ballot papers at the ongoing Imo Assembly bye-election in Ngor Okpala.

The attempted ballot snatching occurred around 10:25 am.

The voters were said to have stood their ground and resisted the hoodlums.

Aside from the incident, the exercise has been largely peaceful.

A golf car belonging to one Sunny Osita alleged to be one of the assailants was badly damaged by the angry voters.

Imo Commissioner of Police, CP Rabiu Hussaini, is leading operatives to monitor the exercise.

CP Hussaini was seen in a convoy of police officers driving slowly and monitoring compliance of his men strategically placed at parts of Ngor Okpala Local Government Area to provide security for the election.

The large turnout across polling units underscores the importance of the exercise to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and People Democratic Party (PDP) which have locked horns in popularity battles since the emergence of Governor Hope Uzodimma.
