The National Executive Council of the Nigerian Bar Association has resolved to drag the Chief Judge of Akwa Ibom State, Justice Ekaette Fabian Obot before the National Judicial Council for wrongly convicting and committing human rights lawyer, Inibehe Effiong for contempt.
According to a source at the meeting, the NEC relied on the report of the 1st Vice President, John Aikpokpo-Martins which showed lack of due process in reaching the conviction.
Recall that on the 27th of July, human rights activist and lawyer, Inibehe Effiong while appearing before Honourable Justice Ekaette Fabian Obot was committed for contempt of court in a defamation suit initiated at the instance of the Governor of the State, Udom Emmanuel.
Subsequently, the NBA mandated the 1st Vice President, John Aikpokpo-Martins to lead a delegation to secure his release from incarceration. However, all attempts to secure his release ended in futility when the NBA President some weeks ago tweeted that the Chief Judge had remained hesitant.
