IPOB to FG: forget 2023 election in Southeast with Kanu in custody

Post Date : November 5, 2022

A Member of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) on Friday in Aba, the commercial nerve of Abia State held a peaceful protest, warning that the 2023 general elections will not hold in the Southeast if Nnamdi Kanu remains in DSS custody.

The protest, which was a coordinated one, was held in the three major local government areas of Aba North, Aba South and Osisioma LGAs respectively.

There were unconfirmed reports that the protest also held in Ugwunagbo, Ukwa West and Ukwa East.

Our correspondent gathered that the IPOB members had wanted to take to the commercial city to hold the protest, but had to reschedule their plans when news filtered that security agencies in the state operating in Aba got intelligence of the planned protest and had mounted their intelligence units at some strategic spots.

It was gathered that instead of converging on an earlier agreed venue in Aba before hitting the city center, the pro-Biafra group chose to hold the protest at different locations off the city center taking advantage of the deplorable nature of the roads which would hinder personnel of security agencies from accessing their venues.

Another report has it that a group of IPOB members protested through No. 1 Ngwa Road to Omuma Road and terminated their protest at Ariaria International Market, where they reportedly warned that the Monday sit-at-home would be strictly monitored, stating that the group would deal with anyone that flouts the order.

According to information gathered, the group is protesting against the continued detention of their leader, Nnamdi Kanu by the Federal Government.

Some IPOB members who spoke anonymously confirmed the protest.

“The same judiciary in several judgments has asked the federal government to free our leader. Some asked the Federal Government to pay him compensation.

“Some of the courts asked that they should take our leader back to Kenya where they illegally abducted him from.

“This is part of our renewed warning signal to the Federal Government that they should forget the 2023 elections in the Southeast if they continue to detain Nnamdi Kanu,” a top IPOB member who preferred anonymity said.
