JAMB denies hiking UTME registration cost

Post Date : December 19, 2023

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has denied media reports indicating that it has increased the cost of 2024 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) application documents.

Some online media platforms reported on Monday that JAMB has increased the cost of 2024 UTME registration fee to N7,700 (with mock), and N6,200 (without mock).

JAMB spokesman, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, told The Sun Newspapers, on Tuesday, that the information being churn by the online media was not correct, insisting that JAMB was misrepresented in the information.

He explained that cost of UTME application was not reviewed upward. Rather, some charges, including CBT centre charges and other ones, that were hitherto paid by candidates to the third parties, were added to the cost of the UTME which raised the figure.

In the breakdown of the cost that he provided, he explained that the cost of UTME and Direct Entry is N3,500; reading text is free; UTME/DE CBT registration fee N700; CBT examination service charge N1,500; bringing the grand total (without mock) to N6,200 for the UTME/DE candidates.

But for candidates that would love to sit for mock-UTME, they would be expected to pay N1,700 additional fee as CBT mock UTME centre charge which made their cost to rise to N7,700.
Then five per cent bank charge is applicable in all charges.

He appealed to the public to disregard the information of hike in cost of UTME/DE registration, describing it as a unfounded information capable of misleading the public

Recall that JAMB had in November announced the dates for activities that would culminate in the 2024 UTME. It stated that 15th January to 26th February, 2024, has been fixed for the sale of UTME application document.

7th March, 2024, was slated for the 2024 mock-UTME, while the main UTME will hold from 19th to 29th April, 2024. Candidates are expected to print their examination slips as from 10th April, 2024.

It, thus enjoined candidates interested in the 2024 UTME to take note of the dates and other advisories that might be issued by the Board in relation to the administration of the examination, or visit the Board’s website @www.jamb gov.ng for other relevant information regarding the 2024 UTME exercise.
