Lagos Calls For Restraints On EndSARS Panel Report

Post Date : November 18, 2021

The Lagos State Government has called for caution in debating the report of the Judicial Panel of Inquiry on Restitution for Victims of SARS Related Abuses and Other Matters.

The panel in its report submitted to the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Monday had established that nine people died in the October 2020 EndSARS protest at Lekki Tollgate, Lagos.

The report has generated debates with the United States, Amnesty International and other rights groups demanding justice for victims and prosecution of those indicted.

But the state commissioner for information and strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, said there was a need to exercise restraint in order not to nullify the good intentions of the government in setting up the Panel.

“In accordance with the Tribunal of Inquiry Law 2015, a committee has been set up to bring up a White Paper on the report to determine the next line of action.

“At the appropriate time, the Government will make known its views on all the issues raised by the Panel through the release of a White Paper,” he said.
