Police have arrested a man who allegedly murdered his female friend in Aba, Abia State, in Cross River State.
According to a police report, on December 4, one Timothy Ekem Ocheche, 29, from Cross Rivers State had lodged the female friend identified as Fortune Nkano Ohiero, 30, also from the same Cross River State, in a hotel on Clifford Road in Aba, Abia State.
After killing the lady, the suspect was said to have fled the hotel unnoticed to an unknown destination.
The hotel management reportedly lodged a reported about the incident to the police in Abia which mounted a manhunt for the fleeing suspect.
It was gathered that on December 5, police in Abia, in collaboration with their counterparts from Cross River State, tracked the fleeing murder suspect to his hiding place at Ogada II village in Obubara Local Government Area of Cross River State and arrested him.
The suspect was said to have on interrogation, confessed to the crime and police said he will be charged to court soon.
In a related development, the police in Abia have arrested two persons, Ukandu Onyebuchi ‘m’ and Emmanuel Onyebuenyi ‘m’ over the death of one Alex Ukaegbu.
It was gathered that Ukaegbu who hailed from Okwuohia, Obowo Local Government Area of Imo State, but resided at Tonimas area of Osisioma, Aba was arrested by a vigilante group headed by the suspects now in police custody.
Ukaegbu who was said to be in charge of a building site in Osisioma was arrested by members of the Mbutu/Umuojima Vigilante Unit, Osisioma on November 29, with some pieces of iron rods.
They were alleged to have chained Ukaegbu in their office and were negotiating for his release for the sum N50,000.
However, unfortunately, Ukaegbu was reported to have died while in their custody.
Following the incident, police operatives in Aba arrested the vigilante commander, Onyebuchi, and Onyebuenyi and the matter was transferred to State CID, Umuahia for discreet investigation.
