Military kills bandit kingpin, foot soldiers in Zamfara

Troops of Operation Fansan Yamma have reportedly killed a notorious terrorists leader, Sani Rusu, and scores of his foot soldiers during a gunfight in Bamamu village, Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

The Coordinator of the Joint Media Coordination Centre Operation, Fansan Yamma, Lt. Col. Abubakar Abdullahi, said in a statement on Tuesday that the encounter occurred on Saturday, January 4, with troops neutralising the criminals and destroying their enclaves.

On the same day, during an ambush operation based on credible intelligence regarding terrorist activities at Kwanar Jollof in the Shinkafi LGA, the troops neutralised additional terrorists, while others sustained fatal injuries.

The operation also resulted in the recovery of one AK-47 rifle, one G3 rifle, eight rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, four rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition, three magazines, and three motorcycles.

Similarly, the statement added that in a separate operation, the Air Component of Operation Fansan Yamma conducted airstrikes on terrorists converging between Fakai and Kware in Shinkafi LGA on December 30, 2024.

“This airstrike was launched in response to intelligence indicating that terrorists led by Bello Turji had convened a meeting in the area,” the statement read.

In a follow-up operation on January 2, 2025, the Air Component carried out further airstrikes in the Maikaman Rini area of Sububu Forest to support Operation Fansan Yamma ground troops targeting the camp of terrorist kingpin Ibrahim Chumo.

The troops also conducted offensive operations against Bello Turji’s camp in the Chida area of Shinkafi on January 5, 2025.
