Some retired military personnel on Tuesday staged a protest at the entrance to the ministry of finance in Abuja over unpaid entitlements.
The group blockaded the entrance to the ministry with canopies and chairs and hung placards demanding the immediate settlement of their pending benefits.
The protest comes on the heels of a previous action by the group in December, where the retirees shut down the ministry over the government’s failure to fulfil their claims.
The retirees are demanding the disbursement of various long-overdue benefits, including palliatives for the period spanning October 2023 to November 2024.
They also called for an increase of N32,000 to their pensions, a lump sum payment of the security debarment allowance, and a refund of pension deducted from the salaries of soldiers who were medically discharged.
Following the retirees’ protest in December, the federal government paid 50 percent of the outstanding entitlements and assured them that the remaining balance would be settled.
The retirees said the federal government is yet to honour its commitment to them.
