...Wants six specialist hospitals built in six geo-political zones
Nigeria Consultative Forum, (NCF), has lambasted President Muhammadu Buhari and his Wife Aisha for engaging in globe-trotting while the country is facing difficult challenges.
The group in a statement signed by its President, Dede Uzor A.Uzor, said it smacked of leadership insensitivity for President Buhari to be travelling to Kenya and United Kingdom, while his wife travelled to Dubai, United Emirate with the wives of Governors’ of NIgeria to celebrate birthday at a period the University teachers in the country were on striker for Federal Government’s failure to meet up with its agreement with Academic Staff Universities Union (ASUU).
They said that the president and his wife were not only insensitive to the plight of NIgerian students and their parents but failed to reckon with the untold suffering of many NIgerians due to biting scarcity of fuel.
NCF said it was unfortunate that when the president came from his Kenya trip, instead of focussing on how to resolve the two issues and others which have caused untold hardship to the people of NIgeria, he jetted out again to Uk during the weekend for health tourists
They said the eight years Buhari was virtually living in London hospital would have been enough time for him to improve the state of our medical facilities that will take care of him,his families and other top echelon of his administration.
They wondered why the First Lady would travel to Dubai to celebrate her birthday and the Wives of Governors would joined her there just to present a birthday cake to her, when there are places like Obudu Cattle Ranch, Yankari Game Reserves and others which has since been abandoned.
But unfortunately, they failed to revamp and improve these places so that they can waste our money on frivolous trips with scarce hard currency.
“What is wrong with the mentality of our leaders and those around them? How can the wives of Governors’ be wasting the scare resources of their various States, while majority of the citizens are impoverished and hungry.
Such money can be used to improve the quality of lives of their respective citizens” said the group.
NCF challenged Buhari to build six specialist hospitals in six geo-political zones in the country to take care of the type of cases that take the president and others abroad for medical tourism, saying that will greatly reduce the waste of scarce foreign exchange and arrest the movement of our doctors and other medical personnel abroad.
The group said :”the wives of our leaders as mothers should be in forefront for good governance, instead of being mundane, obscene in the lifestyles and partners in crime of squandering of our commonwealth”. Dede Uzor cautioned.
