An Igbo socio-cultural group, the Ndigbo Unity Forum (NUF ), has flayed the continued detention of the leader of Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB), despite Court judgements ordering the Federal Government of Nigeria to release the Biafran agitator.
NUF in a statement released in Enugu Tuesday frowned at the intransigence of the Federal Government typified by the strange legal arguments of the Attorney general of the Federation, Abubakar Mallami (SAN).
The group in the statement endorsed by their President, Dede Uzor A, Uzor, also condemned the heap of insult poured on the late elder statesman and First Republic Aviation Minister, Chief Mbazulike Amechi, by President Muhammadu Buhari who refused to release Nnamdi Kanu to him when Amechi visited him in Aso Rock to appeal for Kanu’s release.
President Buhari said the group did not only turn the request down but insisted that the Court should be allowed to take its full course.
Unfortunately, when the law now took its full course and it was in favour of Kanu, Mallami and his cohorts working for Buhari became hysterical and bluntly refused to obey Court orders.
NUF noted that Buhari initially promised to look into Amechi’s request but suddenly made a u-turn and turned down the late elder statesman’s request.
The group said Buhari’s refusal to release Nnamdi Kanu allegedly contributed to the death of Chief Amechi, saying that the First Republic politician must have died as a result of an alleged shock of Buhari’s sudden refusal.
The group said ” Buhari by his action clearly showed that he is an Igbo hater. If he is a statesman he would have used the death of Amechi to set Nnamdi Kanu free, instead of holding him endlessly in the DSS facility despite all the appeals”. Dede Uzor bemoaned.
