Officer killed as police repel attempted attack by gunmen in Anambra

Gunmen have killed an officer on duty at Uli community in Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State on Wednesday.

However it was gathered that police later repelled the attack by yet-to-be identified gunmen on Wednesday.

Crimefacts.news also gathered that the other officer sustained injuries in the attempted.attack and is currently receiving treatment

The incident reportedly occurred at Eziama Health Centre in the community during a medical outreach programme organised by Uli Global Ambassadors for Development Initiative (ULIGADI).

According to eyewitnesses who spoke to newsmen, the gunmen invaded the venue, shooting sporadically into the air, leaving the patients and the others scampering to safety.

“I don’t have much to say at the moment but I will discuss with the chairman to advise the house. One officer died after the unfortunate incident. The second officer is at the hospital receiving medical attention.

However speaking to Crimefacts on Thursday evening, Anambra police spokesperson, Tony Ikennga confirmed the incident.

Ikennga said, “what happen at Eziama Uli yesterday (Wednesday) is an example of the sacrifice we pay as Police Officers in service to the nation and humanity. The details of the incident is still sketchy but it involve police personnel providing security services.

“Police Operatives have cordoned off the area and operation is ongoing.”
