The President of Ohaneze Ndígbo, an apex socio-political and cultural in the Southeast, Prof George Obiozor has asked various political parties in Nigeria to zone the presidency to the region in 2023 presidental election.
Obiozor stated this at his reception banquet organized by Gov Uzodimma at Government House in Owerri on Saturday evening.
In attendance are: Imo Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, HRH, Dr E.C Okeke, Chairman Imo traditional rulers council, Emmanuel Iwuanyawu, a renowned industrialist.
Others: Ohaneze Ndígbo former President, Dr Nnia Nwodo, Igwe Nnaeme Achebe, Obi of Onitsha, Ohaneze Ndígbo President, Prof George Obiozor etc.
Prof Obiozor said that Ndígbo firmly believe that the diversity of Nigeria has been grossly mismanaged, stating that the upcoming 2023 Presidental election provides an excellent opportunity to redress any sense of exclusion or marginalization felt by the people of Southeast.
According to him, “Ohaneze Ndígbo Worldwide has remained very steadfast in it’s position that a nation without the consciousness and deep commitment to the enthronement of equity, justice and fairness undermines the very foundation on which the ethos of good governance is premised .
“It is for this reason that I call on all political parties in the country to zone the
Presidency to the Southeast. Our diversity should be turned to our strength and this can only come from an inclusive arrangement in which all groups have sense of belonging, feel welcome and respected for their invaluable contributions to the nation’s development.
He commended the Southern and Middle Belt leadership forum for their support for Igbo presidency come 2023.
Ohaneze Ndígbo President stated that a SouthEast Presidency in 2023 will have healing effect on Nigeria and will also preserve the nation’s unity.
Begs IPOB to “lift completely Sit-at-home Order”
Prof. Obiozor also urged the proscribed Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB) to end completely the Sit-at-home Order in Igboland.
He said, “we wish to appeal to the leaders of IPOB, our sons and daughters, not to unwittingly add to the burdens of our people.
Speaking further, “We urge them to lift completely the Sit-at-home order to help restore normalcy in the Southeast. The brunt of Sit-at-home order is borne by the millions of Ndigbo families who depend on their daily income for survival.
Continuing, Prof George Obiozor lamented that Sit-at-home is a not favorable to Ndígbo but condemnation of these countless millions of daily income earners to untold hardships.
The Ohaneze Ndígbo President also appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to release Nnamdi Kanu and other Igbo youths in detention in various places.
Prof Obiozor called on the Federal and State Governments to engage the restive Igbo youths in some forms of dialogue towards the peaceful resolution of the present crises.
