Bandits have reportedly killed one person and abducted 16 others during an attack on Tsohon Dungunu, a village in Munya LGA of Niger state.
Speaking with TheCable on Monday, Aminu Najume, chairman of Munya LGA, said the attack occurred at about 2 am on Saturday.
Najume said the bandits stormed the residence of one Alhaji Adamu, murdered him and abducted some of his family members.
“It was not 21 persons that were abducted, it was 16 people. Yes, Alhaji Ahmadu was killed during the attack which occurred at about 2 am on Saturday,” he said.
“They came through Chikun, a local government in Kaduna that shares boundary with Munya.
“They abducted 16 people and took some people from the family of Alhaji Ahmadu who they killed. They only spared three people from that family, the rest were taken away.”
Also confirming the attack, Dantala Noma, a resident of the community, said Ahmadu Maianguwa who was killed was the village head of Tsohon Dunguna.
Noma said about seven persons who were kidnaped escaped from captivity.
“The attack occurred at the old site of Dungunu. A lot of people deserted the area due to insecurity but when the government came in, people started going back,” he said.
“They kidnapped 16 people in the village. They invaded the house of the Maianguwa, his name is Ahmadu Maianguwa, the village head, and they killed him. They also kidnapped some of his family members.
“About seven people were able to escape from the abductors. They also kidnapped other people in the village.”
Efforts to reach Wasiu Abiodun, police spokesperson in the state, for a reaction were unsuccessful, as he did not respond to calls or messages.
