The Community Volunteer Guards of the state which will be signed into law on Tuesday, according to the governor, was amended to allow the guards to carry legal weapons.

Ortom explained that the law was first passed in the year 2000 by the Benue State House of Assembly and was assented to by the then governor, George Akume.

The governor stated this at NKST Church Jato Aka in Kwande local government area of the state.

He said when the law is assented to on Tuesday, it would enable the guards to bear weapons so as to assist the conventional security agents to fight crime and terrorist activities in the state.

He said that the activities of the killer herdsmen were worse when compared with other groups that had already been proscribed by the Federal Government.
