The Enugu Command of the Nigeria Police Force has arrested Mr Mfonobong Udoudom, a lecturer at the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN), who was suspended by the leadership of the institution over allegations bothering on sexual assault.
Our correspondent gathered that the police arrested the lecturer shortly after he was suspended by the university authorities, on Tuesday night.Recall that in a viral-video which trended on Monday night, Udoudom was seen putting on a pair of boxers after he was caught in an attempt to sexually harass a female student.
Highly placed sources in the University community, who would not want their names on print, said this was not the first time he was accused of harassing female students sexually.
The lecturer was said to have threatened to fail the female student in his course if she refused to have an affair with him in his office.
Daily Trust reports that he was seen in the viral video clip putting on only boxers in his office, where he was said to have attempted to molest the female student.
His suspension was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday night by the Acting Public Relations Officer of the University, Dr. Okwun Omeaku.
According to the institution , the lecturer’s suspension will allow it a leeway to launch a thorough probe into the matter.
The statement read, “The indefinite suspension is with immediate effect pending the outcome of a disciplinary panel constituted by the University to investigate the incident.
“For the record, the University of Nigeria has zero tolerance for sexual misconduct involving our staff and students. UNN is among the few universities in the country that has a Sexual Harassment Policy, which guides the relationship between our staff and students in particular and among our male and female staff.”
It added that it would not hesitate to punish the alleged randy lecturer according to its rules if found guilty by the disciplinary panel.
“As a university, we are committed to protecting our students from any form of abuse and exploitation, and the University Management will not hesitate to punish Mr Mfonobong David Udoudom, according to our rules, if he is found guilty by our disciplinary panel.”
