Police Council Confirms Egbetokun As IGP

National Police Service Council has confirmed former Acting Inspector General of Police , Kayode Egbetokun as the Substantive IGP and Head of the Nigeria Police Force.

The Minister of Police Affairs, Ibrahim Geidam, announced this on Tuesday while briefing State House reporters after the council meeting presided over by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

He said council members endorsed the president’s proposal for his confirmation.

Geidam, who said the IGP had been serving in an acting capacity since he was appointed four months ago, stated that records had “shown that he has impressive Curricula Vitae and has also completed numerous police and security courses”, making him highly qualified for the position.

According to him, “During my brief time working with him, I have observed that he is well-qualified, exceptionally honest, transparent, and incredibly hardworking. As a result, we fully endorse President Tinubu’s proposal to confirm him as the Substantive”.

Also speaking, the Governor of Nasarawa State, Abdullahi Sule, said the IGP’s presentation on security situation at the meeting showed he understood the challenges facing the country.

Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State, who said the issue of police funding was equally discussed at the meeting, stated that “We observe that there was no meaningful reforms since the Nigeria Police Force was established.”

Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State announced that President Tinubu had formed a special committee to come up with reforms agenda to reposition the Nigeria Police.
