The wife of the Inspector-General of Police, Hajia Hajara Baba Alkali, has said children of police officers are backward in education.
Mrs Alkali made the remark when she visited the paramount traditional ruler of the Idoma people, Och’idoma, Dr. John Eliagwu Odogbo, at his temporary palace in Otukpo in Benue State, on Tuesday.
She told the royal father that Benue, her home state, was the 16th she had visited since her husband was appointed IGP.
“I’m a daughter of the soil. As I’m going round the states, I also seek the permission of the royal fathers to carry out my projects in their states. There was no Police Officers Wives Association (POWA) nationally when I came on board so my husband woke up POWA. We came to seek your permission. We will be in town for five days.
“My three points agenda are; education, welfare and health. I decided on the agenda in order to make impact in the barracks. For instance, Police children are backward in education. So I took it upon myself to see them move forward. We also find out what police are lacking in health. My women are demoralised so I counsel them. My greatest achievements is waking up POWA,” she said.
The IGP’s wife further intimated the Ochi’Idoma that her visit to Benue was to replicate what she has done in other states, stressing that with the support of the state government, she intended to seek intervention in the aforementioned areas of concerns.
Responding, the Ochi’Idoma, Odogbo advised that during her sojourn as POWA President, she should exhibit the value of truth, equity, fairness and above all the fear of God.
Odogbo added that all she needed to do was tow the path of truth and history would vindicate her.
“I support your idea to reinvigorate the police children education. We value truth, fairness, equity, Justice and the fear of God so Idoma daughters should exhibit these virtues. You’re on the path of history making,” the monarch posited.
