Start reconstruction of Main Market roads, ACF tells Soludo

Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has been urged to commence immediate reconstruction or carry out palliative work on roads leading to the biggest market in West Coast of Africa, the Onitsha Main Market.

The call which came from noless a group than the Anambra Consultative Forum (ACF), has become imperative following the near cut into two of the roads leading to the popular Onitsha Main Market.

In a statement in Onitsha signed by the leader of the group, Dede Uzor A Uzor, they decried the cutting into two of the New Market Road, saying that traders have been having difficult time accessing the market either from the Niger Street, that is from Bridge Head through Ogbo Osisi to Main Market.

The deplorable state of the road has increased transport fare to and from the market and in some cases affected the flow of customers to the marker.

Another critical road leading to the market which has literally cut into two at Bata by Vein Road junction by New Market Road, which has forced tricycle and bus operators to divert to access the market.

Unfortunately, said the forum, the two roads in particular and other roads in Onitsha were not among the 64 km of roads recently awarded by the Governor to mark his six months in office.

Other strategic roads, the group asked the Governor to rehabilitate, include: Porthacourt Road, Creek Road, Bida Road, Modebe Avenue, Miss Elems popularly known as Amaifeke Street.

Others are Niger Street, Ziks Avenue from Ochanja Round About, Arondizuogu via Orlu Street, Uga Street among other strategic roads in and around Onitsha.

Anambra Consultative Forum however commended Governor Soludo for the roads he awarded across the state but enjoined him to ensure that the roads were completed within the duration of the contract.

They enjoined the Governor to immediately commence palliative work preparatory to major work in the two critical roads leading to ” Anambra oil well” which is the Main Market.

ACF urged EFCC and ICPC to intensify action in probing the former Governor Willie Obiano over glaring incidences of corruption and self enrichment leading to the decay of infrastructures and milking the State totally dry.Dede Uzor warned.
