The Supreme Court of Nigeria has on Friday, upheld the decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to de-register 22 political parties.
Recall that INEC had in 2020, de-registered the political parties over their poor performance in previous elections.
Presided by Justice Ejembi Eko, the apex court delivered the judgment on Friday, voiding the decision of the Appeal court which had upturned the decision of the electoral body to de-register the parties.
“This appeal by INEC is meritorious and is hereby allowed. The decision of the court below is set aside,” Justice Eko said.
